Thank you, thank you, thank you to Austin Woman Magazine for choosing Antonelli's Cheese to win your Small Business Growth Grant 2016. We were humbled just to find out we'd been nominated, much less shocked and ecstatic that you honored us with the mention and big win. For those that were in attendance at Austin Woman's 14th Anniversary Celebration (and what an awesome party that was!), you may have seen me ugly cry. That's right. As I was headed up to the stage to receive our award, I was just suddenly overcome with emotions. From being surrounded by so many inspiring women (and men), including fellow business owners, entrepreneurs, and visionaries, to the bubbles, to the music, to my mother who happened to be in town for her own conference.... I just got caught up and bawled. Like boo-hooed bawled with a painful grimace across my face. Unfortunately for me, my mother caught it all on recording. Awesome. But it was a true, honest reflection. And not of our pain. But of our joy. John and I have been so fortunate. We've created a business that supports amazing producers, farmers, and dairymen, that promotes real/quality/slow food, that employees some of the most passionate and tough working folks, and that has some of the most loyal and supportive customers. And it hasn't been without some uphill battles and challenges. So it's times like these, when the "newness" of our store opening has worn off to many (but to us is a daily gift!) that we appreciate the opportunity to represent fellow small businesses working to make the leap from start-up mode to sustainable mode. We hear you. We know you. We are you. And we can do it! Let's beat those odds and keep pounding the pavement, doing what we love, showing the value in it, and crushing our own limiting beliefs. Here's to the next phase for all of us.
American Cheese Month
Okay, okay. We're finally hosting a tasting for all you Wisconsinite transplants to feature some of the best cheeses Wisconsin has to offer. But before you claim the "best state for cheese" championship, we're going to make you work for it. In fact, Wisconsin does have the largest amount of cheese production per volume. However, it turns out that Vermont has the highest amount of artisanal cheese production, while California, #1 in dairy milk production, also has a lot of cheese production. So, in honor of American Cheese Month and to amp things up with a little friendly competition, we're pitting cheeses from all states against each other. We'll hold three rounds, for a tasting of a total of NINE cheeses (as well as all our pairings)!! Spoiler Alert: We'll be tasting our way through amazing cheeses from all three states. So come show your pride to see which state takes the championship? Don't hail from any of these states? Then just come to taste some of the best American cheese our country has to offer - including some that are "even" exported to France! Our Taste Off Class is this coming Tuesday, October 11 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Tickets here.
Then next Thursday, October 13, we're getting our cheese and beer game on, with a tasting class dedicated to our favorite Beer-Friendly American Cheeses. To date, we estimate that we've paired over 500 cheeses and beers, because yes, we love it that much. You may think wine and cheese are a match made in heaven, but the bubbly effervescence of beer simply makes for a divine pairing, lifting those decadent cheese fats from your tongue for the perfect balance of sweet, salty, malty, grassy, hoppy goodness. Bring your own favorite American craft beers (and share with your neighbors if you want) or buy our suggested pairings from the shop beforehand. Details here.

In the Shop
Fall is officially here!!!!! Even though it's still 80+ degrees, we will take it! We picked up some AMAZING new craft beers this last week and can't wait to sample a few of them out this weekend with cheese. In addition to Jester Kings Noble Night, we have a few cases of their new Kollaborationsbier!! This was a collaboration they did with Live Oak Brewery here in Austin. You can read a great story of how this came about here. We also added a few more Jolly Pumpkin beers to our line, Calabaza Blanca and Bam Biere. We already carry the Maracaibo Especial that tastes AMAZING with our Comte!! Finally, we are now carrying The Bruery!!! We have their Belgian Style Pale Ale Jardinier and their White Oak. This craft beer company is from California and a bit newer to Texas so we couldn't be more excited. We will be tasting out Kollaborationsbier, Bam Biere, and White Oak this weekend with various cheeses. Please come by and have a taste!
Our Cheese Around Town
One of our wholesale partners, Easy Tiger, is showcasing an all-Vermont cheese board this month! Moses Sleeper, from The Cellars at Jasper Hill is inspired by French Brie. It won 1st place in its category at ACS this year! Also, Bon Pere, a firm cow and goat milk blended cheese from Boston Post Dairy, is also featured. Translating to "Good Father," Bon Pere was named after Robert Gervais, the husband/father of the family run farm. And for all the Morbier fans out there, Easy Tiger is showcasing the Morbier inspired, Ashbrook from Spring Brook Farm! A tasty line up from just a few Vermont producers!
